The 6th Engagement Scenario has the desperate Japanese launching attacks on Kohima in the hopes of dislodging the British forces from the redoubt of Imphal. Not much is added in terms of rules but it did become obvious that the Japanese cannot win the scenario – after scrounging online to ensure I didn’t completely botch learning the rules, I extended the scenario to see if an continued Japanese would bare any fruit.
And just like the historical battle, the Japanese faltered and experienced horrendous losses. What the battle illustrated, at least on this map, is that the hex containing Imphal is vital to the defense of India. It’s inaccessibility and its terrain modifiers make it a formidable redoubt to take and as long as the British control the hex, forces can pass eastward and harass any Japanese attempt to circumvent the mountainous area. Something to note for the campaign.
