Salerno ’43 is small enough that it comes with only 2 scenarios, the campaign game covering 22 days/turns and an 8 turn invasion scenario on the initial landings on the Salerno beaches codenamed Operation Avalanche.
The limited scope of the latter scenario makes this more suitable for tournament play or even a single session as it provides the proper practice to hone strategies and rules understanding that will have an impact on the larger campaign.
Despite the attraction of its shortened playtime, the end of the scenario can feel abrupt and out of context, leading to overly aggressive German play, considering they don’t have to save their strength for future turns.
Regardless, its a good scenario to sink your teeth into as a prelude to the full campaign, which I will be covering next time.
